Tellico4x4.com 2008 Jeep Wrangler Build

1.5in Narrow Flat Panel Design Flare Kit

Our Mission: To build up a new stock 2008 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon JK with our most popular Jeep accessories to make it an ideal Daily Driver AND Weekend Wheeler; and to do so without voiding Chryslers Limited Lifetime Warranty. Interior and exterior accessories as well as Jeep performance parts will all be installed on the new Wrangler.

These flares are the same design as the original JK Flat Panel flares but are 1.5” Narrower Than Stock Width Factory JK Flares. While the Flat Panel Design allows for additonal clearance for larger diameter tires, the narrower width give the Jeep JK that aggressive “Crawler Look” that is desired by today’s Jeep enthusiasts. Made of virtually unbreakable urethane, these flares are rugged with a great fit and finish. All instructions are included along with installation hardware and amber running lights. These flares also carry Xenon’s Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Getting away from the black and yellow "bumble bee" look, a coat of factory yellow paint will be applied the Wranglers new flares. However, we wanted to let you see them before they were sent off to paint shop. If you decide to go this route, the paint code can be found on the drivers door jam of the Wrangler, ensuring a perfect color match.

It took awhile, but we got the flares back from the paint shop. They look pretty good and we're ready to put them on the Jeep.

The first step is to loosen the inner fender liner. There are just a handful of bolts and a few snaps as you can tell from the second pic. Then the liner will almost come out.

The liner will hang down enough to allow you to unplug the turn signal lamp. There are also the bolts shown in the pic that you need to remove as well.

Once those are out the whole assembly will lift off. You will have to tug at it to break the little clips that hold it on. You will have to remove all of them from the fender for the installation of the new flares.

Now with the flare assembly off the Jeep it's easier to work on. We have to reuse the inner fender liner, so it has to be seperated from the flare. The only problem is the style rivets that Jeep used to attach the inner liner. We just broke them since we were not using them again.

Now you have to reinstall the inner liner back on the Jeep. Any part that sticks out will need to be marked and cut off.

This is the look that you are working toward. Once you've got a clean line, it's time to more to the lights and get it assembled.

We had to add a ground wire to our light to get it to work. This also made the install easier as we just had to hook up the two wires without figuring out which was power and which was ground. It's also time to hold the flare up there and start installing the bolts. Start at one end and work your way around. That way the flare can stretch and conform to the Jeep as the bolts are started.

Once you have them all started, tighten them down. Now it's time to crimp (or solder) the two turn signal wires to the existing wires.

Once you've got the light attached, test and make sure it works before you go any further. If you know it does then put some wire loom on it. Then all that's left is to attach the inner fender liner. Finished.

Now lets move to the back of the Jeep. It's the same steps, just a lot easier. There's a few snaps in the fender wells. Then give the flare a slight tug up and it'll come right off.

Here's the whole thing out and one the ground. Jeep used those new rivets on the back as well. So get them off anyway you can. When you do, hold it up to the jeep and mark anything that sticks out.

Next it's time to trim the excess off and you should be careful to leave the two frog eyes on top of the liner. These allow it to be bolted back to the jeep.

Since there's really no way to bolt anything to the back of this Jeep, Xenon provides this little tool. You use it to install the nut serts into the fender well.

Once you've got all of the new inserts installed, hold the flare up and bolt it down. Then the only thing left is to reinstall the modified inner fender liner.

Look at all of the gained clearance these flares offer. They also allow the tires to stick out from them about an inch or so. This is just enough for the "Jeep look".

Outside, you can really tell that the Xenon fender flares really change the appearance of the new Wrangler JK.
