This will probably be the most involved install that we do to this new JK. So we'll start by unboxing everything and laying it all out to be seen. This kit comes with lower control arms, front and rear trac bars, rear trac bar bracket, springs and brake lines. So you can tell this is a pretty complete lift kit.

Now we started by jacking up the jeep and setting it on jack stands right behind the lower control arm mounts. Once the Jeep is secure, remove the front wheels. We had to use the jack to lift the axle slightly to allow the front tires to come off. It also helps to remove tension off the front suspension when you start removing the parts.

Here's a good shot of the old suspension components. I know, you're thinking this has to be one of the cleanest JKs out there, 1400 miles and it's still got the barcodes on the parts. Well either way it's time to take it all off. Just start with the shocks, then the front sway bar end links. By doing this you will be able to get more play out of you axle, so you can drop it down and remove the coil spring. Be careful when dropping the axle, as the front brake lines and abs lines are extremely short.

Here's a good shot of how tight you have to stretch them. If you want to make it easier, you can choose to go ahead and install the stainless brake lines. This will allow you to drop the axle some more, but you will still have to watch the abs line. You can also see that we've already removed the lower control arms as well.

Now here is the most tedious step in the install. You have to measure the new control arms and make them match the measurements in the instructions, just measure center to center to get it done. The closer the better, but you'll still need to get it aligned anyway. Also be sure to apply as much tq as you can to the jam nuts, and apply red loctite as well.

With all of the old parts removed, its time install the new Rock Krawler stuff. Our camera died, so I don't have any pictures of the reassembly. We kept working to make our deadline. However, the installation is the exact reverse of the disassembly. Just be sure that everything is tight. Now lets head over to the back.

The rear is the same as the front. Start by supporting the rear axle with a jack. Now remove the shocks and sway bar links, then remove the rear trac bar. Now you can use the jack to slowly drop the rear axle enough to remove the rear coil springs and the lower control arms. You can discard all of these parts as you will only need the hardware (bolts and nuts). We also took the opportunity to install the stainless brake lines. As you can see in the right picture, it's good practice to put the bolts back where they go. It just makes them easier to keep up with.

Even with the extended brake lines installed, we still needed some more slack to install the new coil springs. The e-brake cables were the problem. So if you look directly up above the axle you will see the bracket you need to remove. It's the only bracket holding the e-brake cables up. I did contact Rock Krawler directly and make sure this was something that wouldn't have any side effects, they gave me the go ahead. After the bracket was removed (two 10mm nuts), we got the droop that we needed to fit the new rear coil springs in the buckets.

Now lets just install the new parts the reverse of the disassembly. Keep in mind that as you are installing the new control arms, remember to get the measurements as close as possible to the instruction sheet. The rear trac bar has a new bracket that needs to be installed. They are 2 holes that have to be drilled to help support it and keep it aligned. This is how the kit stays 100% complete bolt on. However the instructions do recommend that you weld the bracket to the axle tube, because the oem bracket is weak. So we chose to go ahead and run a short bead on both sides. Remember this is purely optional, we just chose to be on the safe side.

Well on the last little part of the install we ran into a small problem. When using the RS9000 shocks, you cannot mount the sway bar brackets on the inside of the sway bar mount. There's a minor clearance issue. So I got back on the phone with the guys at Rock Krawler. They said for me to mount the end links on the outside, between the bracket and the caliper. Sounded good to me, however with the stock wheels on it the sway bar end link had less than an 1/8th of an inch clearance. So we decided to remove the rear sway until our new Allied Beadlocks came in.

Now put the wheels back on, double and triple check everything. Then head straight to the alignment shop. The JK Wrangler's have a extremely touchy ESP system, so drive safely. Once the aligment is completed you won't have any issues with the ESP system. So don't worry yourself too much. Have fun.
