Rock Hard 4x4 provided us with all of their new skid plates for the new Wrangler JK. As soon as you get them unpacked the great quality is immediately visable. Even the engine skid plate comes over and bolts to the side of the frame, that way it guards the exhaust as well.

Since we had an automatic, our first step was to remove the oem automatic transmission skid plate. Not a big deal as it was only 3 bolts. Now drop it down and lay it to the side.

Once that was out of the way, next to go was the factory transfer case skid plate. It was 4 bolts (2 front & 2 rear), then it was laying on the ground with the rest. Now it's time to start putting stuff on.

We started with the new heavy duty tranfer case skid plate. In the picture we reused the oem bolts for right now. We did this because they were handy and we knew that they'd be replaced with the new rock washers and bolts from Rock Hard in a little bit. As you can tell from the picture, the new t-case skid plate really covers and protects a lot more that the factory one.

Since we are already back here, lets go ahead and put the gas tank skid plate on. This one is probably the most difficult one to install as you have to drill a handful of holes. The good thing is that the oem skid plate stays put, you just bolt this one up to it.

We got it up and put the front 3 bolts in. This allowed the skid plate to stay up against the Jeep so we could drill the other holes. Here you can see just how well these two skid plates fit together. Also you can see the rock washers that are provided to keep the bolts from catching on the rocks.

The holes that you have to drill into the oem gas tank skid plate are shown in the pictures above. In the picture on the right, both of the bolt holes are hiding behind the driveshaft. To gain access to these places, we placed a jack under the axle and compressed it up. This moved the driveshaft out of the way, and allowed us just enough room to drill the two holes.

Here's another picture of the gas tank skid plate and the transfer case skid. They fit pretty close together, but not close enough. Rock Hard provides a small bracket that you bolt into two predrilled holes. This small bracket allows both plates to be pulled closer together and makes an almost perfect flat surface.

This EVAP skid plate has to be the easiest one to install. There are three bolts holding it up in place. Just remove and replace to have it completely protected.

Here we can see how exposed the rest of the drivetrain is. Not to worry as the front engine/transmission skid plate goes on quickly. Make sure that the front engine skid plate goes on the bottom of the t-case one. This makes a smoother surface when crossing the rocks. The rock washers also help keep the bolt heads from getting hung.

Here are some pictures of the driver and passenger side mounts for the engine skid plate. They are extremely easy to bolt on and line up perfectly with the skid plate hanging below. On the driver's side, make sure the short bend goes toward the skid plate. They each install with just two bolts. After that, you're finished.
