It finally came time to add a rear tire carrier to the jeep. Body Armor stepped up to the task with their 63in rear bumper and swing-a-way system. As you can tell it come boxed up like it's ready for anything.

Once you get through all of the packing material, you should see the bumper. Now lets start by removing the rear bumper, if you need help please click here. Also go ahead and remove the reciever hitch (if you have one) since the new bumper has one integrated in. With everything removed the rear of the JK should look like the picture above.

As you probably have noticed, the rear of the frame is open and hollow. Which has it's advantages since the Body Armor rear bumper will slide into the ends of the frame. Also when you get it started go ahead and set the diamond plated trim piece up there. This is a welcomed addition, since it covers up a lot of the lower body tub. Once everything is pushed in and aligned, you'll need to install the two bolts per side.

It's always a good idea to check the bumper from both sides to make sure it's properly aligned. Once you are satisfied, tighten down all of the bolts.

Next its time to mount the tire carrier. It should be in the bottom of the box. You will have to have someone help you hold the tire carrier, while the pivot pin in pushed into the mount. Be careful as the pin has a knotch in it for the small set screw, so line it up before you push it down.

This is something that we added to help keep the paint from chipping. It's just a small piece of rubber and a zip used to hold it to the resting stop for the tire carrier. Next you need to remove the oem tire carrier and brake light. There are eight screws holding it on. Remove it carefully and unplug the 3rd brake light. We went ahead and reinstalled screws back into the body to help keep water and debris out.

To help keep the tire carrier still while on the trails, you'll need to install this bracket (2nd pic). In the picture we made a mistake and installed it upside down. So flip it over to get better use out of it.

Now close the swing-a-way and adjust the latch. It needs to be adjusted for that it takes roughly 20lbs of pressure to close.

Here is a picture of the Hi-lift Jack mount that they provide, as well as their antenna mount.

Here's how the 60in X-Treme Hi-Lift Jack looks when it's mounted. However we felt that it pushed the tire out too far from the Jeep, so we removed it. The Hi-Lift Jack will now mount to the top light brackets on the Body Armor front bumper. By doing this we were able to push the spare tire in tight against the body. This helped with the departure angle and keep some strain off of the bumper.

As you can recall, we had to remove our 3rd brake light. Body Armor offers this nice bright LED 3rd brake light as a replacement. It mounts behind the support bracket, and attaches to the two existing wires. With our 35in tires, their 3rd brake light fits perfectly.

Here you can see how far in we were able to push the tire without the Hi-Light Jack. Also the Swing-A-Way opens plenty wide to allow access to the trunk. The only thing we'd like to see would be a way to lock the swing-a-way open. Other than that one small issue, we don't have any complaints about this strong heavy duty rear bumper.
